Perhaps the biggest turmoil in a woman’s life is her first pregnancy: physical, emotional, cultural, and mental changes and challenges, both internal and external. It has been true through the ages. This piece uses sketches from ancient medical texts, copies of cards my own mother received when I was born, and original images to portray that turmoil and angst.
