Tales from a Shingled Roof

This work was inspired by photographs of aged and decaying wood from the abandoned buildings in Virginia City, a 19th-century mining ghost town. I used a layered technique to depict the shingled roof of a weather-ravaged structure. Variations in color and striation give a layered approach to time, each shingle telling its own story.
