I became interested in old maps of London while researching family history. The earliest maps showed the initial marks of humanity on the raw landscape as neighborhoods grew along natural features. Housing became denser along the river, gradually spreading into adjacent fields and wilder areas. This piece takes its name from one of the voids in the city left by the great fire of 1666. |
