This is the first quilt in a new abstract series, I call 'Play'. I had decided I wanted to try something totally different from my previous art and 'break-away' from the way I was working (hence the title). I explored new ideas that had been on my to do list, but after making a doodle-sketch on my iPad, I was inspired to create the idea in a quilt. I collaged fabrics that I had scribbled graffiti-like using paint and markers, and combined them with commercial fabrics and my saturated color palette. I worked intuitively putting sections together, pushing the boundaries of the usual square perimeters of a quilt, and additionally pushing my own boundaries. |
