EILEEN DOUGHTY’S ARTWORK IN NETHERLANDS MUSEUM EXHIBITION

“Sand Dune” by Eileen Doughty (of Vienna, Virginia) will be shown in “Landscape Quilts” at the Panorama Mesdag Museum in The Hague, the Netherlands. The dates are April 15 - May 31, 2004, opening a few weeks prior to Patchwork & Quilt Expo IX, also at The Hague.  Both the landscape art show and the Expo are coordinated by Quilts, Inc.
Seventeen textile artists from the United States were invited to show their work in the exhibit.
Hendrik Willem Mesdag, one of the most famous painters of the Hague School, painted the Panorama in the late 1800s.  It is a cylindrical painting of a vista from a seaside village in the Netherlands, and is more than 42 feet high and 360 feet in circumference, making it the largest painting in the country. The Panorama Mesdag is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Netherlands.
Art and science are often blended in the creation of Eileen Doughty’s work. Many of her art quilts depict the natural environment and the impact of people upon it.  Her widely exhibited quilts are in national and international private, public and corporate collections.
Doughty’s fiber artwork may also be seen locally at the office of Dr. Allen S. Garai, 427 Maple Avenue South, Vienna.
Doughty works in the art quilt medium, which incorporates many art disciplines. Art quilts are part of the fiber art field of highly collectable artwork. These quilts are meant to hang on the wall like an oil or watercolor painting. The quilted surface brings a dimensional depth to the artwork that paint alone cannot. Doughty and many other quilt artists employ a variety of surface design techniques when creating their artwork.
Doughty can be reached at artist@DoughtyDesigns.com.  Her artwork is viewable online at www.DoughtyDesigns.com.
