Meet Your Representative Kristi Farrier

I have been working with needle, thread and fabric since learning to embroider and sew in my youth and I began creating textile art in 2006. My work, most often abstract and conceptual multimedia pieces, are visual interpretations of my life events, experiences and emotions – both big and small. In creating my art pieces, I explore striving for balance and the tension of opposing notions such as tame and wild, freedom and constraint, order and chaos. Color and line always play strongly in my work, whether featuring graphic, geometric shapes and grids or more loosely flowing forms. I use commercial and hand-dyed fabric and threads combined with paint, ink and sometimes found objects. I also employ both machine stitching and hand work and favour raw-edge techniques for their freedom of process and celebration of imperfection.
