Meet Your Representative Diane English

I was born in Portland, Oregon and moved to Eugene, Oregon, when I married and where I currently live. I earned my BS from the University of Oregon with studies in literature, weaving, and the sciences. I have worked with fibers throughout my life (I began knitting and sewing for my dolls when I was 5 years old) and currently work as an independent artist. I have shown my work in numerous art exhibits in the United States as well as Brazil, France, Japan and South Korea.

I am an artist who greatly appreciates the natural environment and being outside enjoying long walks with my dog in the forests or beaches near my home. Therefore it is no wonder that my art focuses on nature.

I love texture and color and warmth and vibrancy. But most of all I love fibers. I love creating works that are merely a suggestion of what is possibly there for the viewer to see. I use hand-dyed and commercial fabrics, I machine stitch the pieces together and then machine and hand-quilt. For me the hand stitching is a part of the surprise of discovery when the work is viewed up close. It is my goal that viewers bring their own personal experiences into deciphering what they are seeing.
